Life Together

Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Guli Francis-Dehqani

SCM Press, 2024, 112pp., pbk,

£13.99

Life Together serves as an excellent entry point into Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s work. Written earlier than some of his more heavily cited texts (such as Discipleship, first published in 1937, or even Ethics, published posthumously in 1949), Life Together reflects the world Bonhoeffer was facing; a world on the precipice of war, and a Germany steadily winding up the clock of fascism and eugenics. Much of Life Together focuses on the elements Bonhoeffer suggests a loving, sacrificial, and unifying Christian community is built from. In this way, Life Together is essential reading for those exploring a call into ordained Christian ministry, or even the possibility of forming a new church.
