The contributors to this rich festschrift all acknowledge their indebtedness to the inspiration of Nicola Slee’s discernment of signposts alongside a path of a feminist practical theology. With its focus on the life and practice of the Christian community, especially as experienced by women, there is a diversity of approaches, content and background. These are held together through a focus on Slee’s ground-breaking work on women’s faith development, whose doctoral thesis urged ‘the hearing into speech of the voices of women and others for whom silence has been imposed’ (published as Women’s Faith Development: Patterns and Processes (Ashgate: 2004). This radical attention to the hidden suggests theology might well find expression in new forms and expressions, perspectives that have originated from experience, which conventional approaches have ignored or suppressed.
