Windows onto Women’s Work and AI
Introduction
Women’s experiences of AI in their working lives are diverse. Some women are shaping research and practice in this field at the highest levels. In Equipping Christian Leadership in an Age of Science (ECLAS), for instance, we have had the privilege of engaging with and learning from women pioneers, academics and innovators working at the cutting edge of science and AI related technology. Among them Margaret Boden, who died recently, was widely recognised as a founding figure in AI with her work on creativity, cognition, and consciousness (The Guardian 2025). Celebrating women’s leadership in AI, and science and technology more broadly, is vital. Alongside this, there is a pressing need to look at the emerging uses of AI in roles where women’s work has long been concentrated.
