Stephen Spencer is the most knowledgeable theologian currently writing about Archbishop William Temple. Spencer did a doctorate on Temple, and then published a book on him in 2001, followed both by many articles and by a selection of his writings in 2015. Now Spencer has turned to a chronological account of Temple’s life, framing this in the context of a discussion of his leadership qualities. The book has an appropriate subtitle, ‘A Study in Servant Leadership’. The book is a welcome addition to the literature on Temple and a good summary of Spencer’s own work.
