What joins these two excellent books is a sustained and serious effort to reinterpret two approaches to social ethics in Christian tradition: pacifism and ‘peacebuilding’. Both volumes are strongly marked by present concerns: environmental issues and violence and war in a global context. They come to slightly different judgements on pacifism but both are broadly based, carefully argued, and—above all and emphatically to be welcomed—constructive.
