Extractive Industries – A Case Study on Investor Engagement

Extractive industries lie at the core of the global economy. From copper for cabling to rare Earth metals for specialist components in mobile phones, and from industrial aggregates for construction to gem stones for the jewellery trade, natural resources in huge quantities are taken from the Earth each year for human use. In many parts of the Global South, natural resources, of which extractable materials are a major constituent, present one of the best opportunities to generate revenue in hard currencies, money which can then be applied to support wider economic development and to sustain social programmes such as health and education.
