Our world has been transformed by psychology and the human sciences. This book is important because to thrive or even survive as an institution with any credibility the Church of England and other churches must heed the insights of system psychodynamics, adapt appropriately and change their practice. Yet up to now it seems to me the C of E has no intention of putting its theology to work in service of institutional change. Why might this be? Sher and Lawlor’s excellent book explains it well; human and institutional defences prevent it. This book offers some tools basic to understanding how so much to do with going to church involves the unconscious.
