Reflecting on a Coastal Micro-Initiative
It is not surprising that some have called for a need for a ‘science’ of Cathedral studies.1 Very often with greater footfall than any megachurch on either side of the Atlantic Cathedrals, Shrines and Abbeys act as crucial economic and civic ‘anchor institutions’ and sustain myriad initiatives focused on social inclusion.2 In these places the materiality and the idea of the ‘institution’ of the Cathedral interplay with imagination, place, relationships and reach to unlock significant public value.
