All Desires Known: Human Value and Worth amid COVID-19
This article seeks to identify and discuss a small number of themes emerging during the COVID-19 pandemic from the perspective of Christian social ethics. In particular, it concerns the experiences of older people within the public health crisis and what this may reveal about the values and assumptions of society. It is argued that this is important because values inform decisions about what is ethically acceptable. The speed with which the COVID-19 pandemic developed may have revealed attitudes and convictions which have been less obvious at other times. As such, the events of 2020 provide a unique moment to identify and address questions of human value and the policy positions adopted by public authorities.
