The post-Christian reality
There was a time when ‘parish mission’ meant a concentrated week in the calendar to reach out to the uncommitted or non-churchgoers, invite them to hear a guest speaker and befriend them with special events. Then by the late 20th century, that idea was replaced by mission as a permanent state of being – mission-shaped church, mission action plans, fresh expressions, church growth, messy church, cafe church, and now (lo and behold in the age of covid) online church.
