Perceiving the Divine in Beauty
Some years ago, I was asked to lead a seminar with a group of churchbased youth leaders. Age, church tradition and background separated us, and they were suspicious from the start that they would have nothing to learn from me. I asked them to suspend judgement while I offered some autobiographical details. In order to make a connection I also proffered some objects of art, things of beauty for them to ponder, but these did not prove to be an inducement to listen. The shutters came down and stayed down.
