Why People Matter: A Christian Engagement with Rival Views of Human Significance
John F. Kilner, ed.

Why People Matter is a collection of essays by several notable American Protestant ethicists, written with a view towards introducing key considerations in contemporary philosophical debates about human significance. The arguments presented in this study are based on a simple but thought-provoking premise; while most of us today would readily agree that ‘people matter and ought to be treated accordingly’ (3), the specific reasons underlying this conviction will vary from person to person according to each individual’s broader worldview. And according to Kilner ‘many people have a life outlook that is incapable of supporting their conviction that people matter’ (11).
